Steamed Boat Dinner for two

Weather here is kind of cold and we thought we should get something warm for dinner at home. So we went to get all the ingredients for our little steam boat for two from a Japanese groceries / supermaret, Marukai. It is a membership only market. Their annual membership only $10. We bought vegetables, fish cakes and meat for shabu-shabu.

The soup is just a canned chicken broth with water added, a pinch of the following seeds: fennel, cumin, poppy and coriander. Also into the broth, we added garlic (2-3 cloves), green onion bulbs (2-3 bulbs), red dates (i forgot to add this - 2-4 pieces), one carrot - sliced into the size you like and a few slices of ginger. This is our soup base.

Here are our ingredients for steam boat:

Chicken soup base

Napa Cabbage

Spinach

Enoki Mushroom

Fish Cakes - Ika Maki (w/ octopus inside) & Ron Ten (pollock fish cakes)

Berkshire Gold Kurobuta - Pork

Harris Ranch Prime Kata Rosu - beef

Shabu Shabu Ribeye - beef (best choice is meat with snowy texture)
