It is raining

It is raining outside now. It is going to rain these two days. It started raining very early this morning and when I woke up the ground was wet and there was still drizzling. I love the rain. The clouds help to trap in the heat and it is not as cold early in the morning as when no cloud. Hopefully we will get more rain because LA is really REALLY dry the last two years and we need all the rain we can get.

Rain rain rain

Wow ... we had rain yesterday! It started raining since 5am on Friday morning. It was about time for us to have rain, but it was kind of dangerous for a lot of the communities that was affected during the forest fire as they were worry about mud slides. '

We needed the rain so much as this year, we hardly had any drops. This was a heavy rain which only stopped after the evening time. Our plan to visit Disneyland after dinner had to be postponed to another day.

The sky looked so much clearer this afternoon after the long rain. The freeway looked much cleaner too after the rain washed all the dirt away.

Where is the blue sky?

Above picture was taken late afternoon Tuesday. Wild fires has been burning everywhere around Los Angeles, ranging from Malibu to the east as far as San Bernardino Mountains and to the south in Irvine and San Diego. Even though we live no where near the fires but the grey smokes filled our air above. It was announced on the TV that our air is in an unhealthy level. From the picture above you can see the sun is somewhat filtered by the grey smoke.

Bad wild fires in Los Angeles

There are so many wild fires in and around Los Angeles. All started on Sunday when the dry and hot Santa Ana wind started coming down from the desert. The wind which comes down from the high desert through the hill and into the valley will increase its temperature as it descends the hill into the valley. This dry and windy condition is what we don't look forward too as it always comes with red flag warning.

There were several wild fires started on Sunday, in Malibu, Castaic, Mission Viejo, San Bernardino Mountain and part of San Diego too. This is one of the worst wild fires we have in years. So many structures were destroyed and many more residents were evacuated from their home. We definitely looking forward for the cooler weather to come to help calm down the fire. Not all of the wild fires have been fully contained. At least not until the weather is better.

Hot and Dry weather

It is the Santa Ana wind blowing that made our weather very dry and hot. There are several wild fires in Southern California that yet to be contained. It is really bad as there is even a red flag warning which is up until tomorrow.

Yesterday we planned to visit Irvine Railroad in Orange for its pumpkin patch festival. Hubby cousin whom left earlier than we did called to let us know it was closed due to the windy condition. We were on 91 freeway heading to the 55 fwy. After passing 5 fwy, we noticed the windy condition but didn't know it was that bad. We detour and went down to Irvine Tanaka Farm for its pumpkin patch but it was also windy there and dust flying everywhere. They were opened but we decided to leave and went back home. It was hot in Gardena but at least no wind.

Today and tomorrow will be good weather to bring out all the laundry to dry. May be planning to wash a load of bedsheets and towels tomorrow.

Chilly Friday

This morning when I woke up, I could hear the wind howling in my backyard. When I went out to line dry the cloth diapers, the wind was blowing very strongly and it was very chilly too. When I was done with hanging the diapers, I came in and left the back door opened. Brandon kept pointing to the door and asking me to close it. I think he felt the cold wind striking his bare legs because he was wearing only the cloth diaper no pants.

I heard the weather forecast mentioning about rain coming in this weekend. May be the wind will blow away all the rain clouds. Now I checked Yahoo Weather, it is Sunny for tomorrow. Good weather for weekend. Can't wait to go out with my family.

Nice to have rain

Last night we had heavy downpourl. It really rained cats and dogs let me tell you. I woke up several times last night because the noise was really loud. Even Brandon woke up twice to use the potty. The heavy rain was intermittence.

This morning I woke up to a fresh scent of after rain. Our swimming pool and jacuzzi had been filled up by 2-3 inches. Ground was still wet. Sky was clear blue with patches of white clouds. It was so peaceful to just stare at the bright blue sky.

I really love the rain. It helps to clear up all the smog in the valley as well as clean the street and ground. After this heavy rain, we probably don't need to water our front yard for a little while.

HOT Day

Remember this? It was really hot that holiday weekend. Our car was parking outside the garage before we left for Marukai to do some shopping. When Hubby was backing up the car to the street, the thermometer in the car showed the above. It was 4:14pm and the temperature was 105°F. But once the car started moving, the temperature went down to 99°F. It was still very hot. We are lucky our car has A/C. Too bad for us the house doesn't have one.

Nice Weather

Been too hot for the past two weeks. Finally, our weather has cooled down quite a bit. No longer as humid as last weekend. But I also noticed that it gets darker sooner too. Yesterday, while walking around the block with our little one, the sky got dark around 720pm. Not used to this, I prefer longer day time.

Hot Hot Hot

This 3-days Labor's day holiday weekend is so hot and humid. Imagine me sweating here in Los Angeles. I've never sweat so much, and feel so sticky. Just made me feel like I am back in Malaysia. Temperature was up to 100 degree at around 1-2pm. We couldn't stand the heat anymore so today, we jumped into the pool.

Saturday and Sunday we were busy going out. When we returned home in the late afternoon and evening, our house felt like an oven. We had to close all windows as we don't have iron grills. So the house is really really hot and humid. Very uncomfortable when we step inside. Don't ask why we didn't turn on AC, because we don't have 1. Old house.

Freezing Cold

The coldest I've ever felt since I lived in LA. It is now 8am, the sun is up and my backyard thermometer is showing the temperature outside only at 30°F. Imagine 32°F = 0°C. So it is really freezing cold. Luckily, my pool's water has not froze (as I seen out from my kitchen window) or else it may break the surrounding concrete, because as water freezes it expands. Also I don't see any frost on my neighbors' roof. This so cold ... sooooo cold!

We didn't have our central heater running over the night (but I think our gas water heater must have been running the whole night as it is located with its door facing the backyard and the door wasn't insulated) since the three of us were sharing the same queen size bed and queen size down comforter to keep us all warm. This is not a good weather for my baby to sleep by himself on his own crib because he is the type of baby who kicks off his own blankie and then sleeps on top of it.
